Dr. Dirt

Why a prescription?

Because every class is different. Dr. Dirt works out the right fit with each teacher: a small class or a whole grade, a few weeks or the full year. Pricing is matched to your school's budget so every class can play. Some classes are free.

Start with a 30-day trial: one class, up to 35 children and two microscope lessons. When it ends you keep reading your reports, and Dr. Dirt can turn it into a full plan.

What children do

Their own garden. Their own discoveries.

Grow a half acre

Each child plants, waters, mulches and harvests on their own 45 m by 45 m lot. Gardens keep growing between classes with the real hourly weather where your school is.

Build living soil

Hot compost, worm bins, bokashi, cover crops and IMO boxes set at the edge of the forest. Soil readings show what changed, and why.

Use the microscope

Look at soil samples like a real soil scientist: count bacteria, find fungi, protozoa and nematodes, and solve mystery samples you send.

Help each other

On together days classmates work side by side, live. Every task done on a friend's lot is credited to the helper.

Sign in with pictures

Children type a class code, tap their name and tap their three secret pictures. No email and no typed passwords for kids.

Safe-phrase messages

Children can only send ready-made, friendly phrases ("Water my plants, please." "Mahalo!"). No typing, and you can switch it off.

What you control

A teacher dashboard of its own

  • Class list and picture passwords: add children, print or reset their pictures.
  • Class map: see every lot, who is online and where each child is; send a child, a group or everyone to a lot.
  • Time: pause, play, speed up, simulate ahead a day, a week or a season, and rewind to an earlier save.
  • Together days: open one lot, a group or all of them; a child can close their own.
  • Challenges and classroom Bushels: set goals and rewards for the class, a group or one child.
  • Microscope lessons: pick the samples, send mystery slides and see every child's answers.
  • Engagement reports: minutes played, school days, microscope work, a per-child table and a one-page summary to print for your principal.
  • Aides and substitutes on a full plan.

🔬 Dr. Dirt's services

A soil scientist for your school

I'm here to help any school diagnose a problem: a garden that won't grow, sick trees, a mystery bug or a stinky compost pile. I bring my field lab, look under the microscope with the kids, and leave a plan everyone can follow.

  • School garden diagnosis visits
  • Microscope lessons with your own soil
  • The best Dr. Seuss reading ever
  • Compost and worm bin check-ups
  • Soil tests you can buy online
  • Pocket Lab (coming soon)

Sustainable and regenerative

I test before anything is added and feed the soil life with natural amendments, so less fertilizer washes into streams and the ocean where it feeds algal blooms.
